Was your great-great-grandfather there all along?

Over two hundred million cleaner, sharper records. Because your story is in every detail.

Census records can give you some of the best details about your ancestors. But the information isn’t always clear. That’s why we’ve taken on the number one request we’ve heard from our members and enhanced six more U.S. Census collections, in addition to the six we recently released. In all, we’ve gone over 200 million records from the 1790-1900 censuses to greatly improve images and many indexes. Take a new look—you might just discover someone who was there the whole time.

The 19th century moves into the 21st century.

That means you can zoom in closer to see more detail than ever before.

Now handwriting won’t come between you and your ancestor.

Deciphering a name on some U.S. Census records can be difficult. So we’ve gone through the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1900 census collections line-by-line and added alternates where the information was unclear — over 23% new names in total. Is he the good Mr. Porter or Dorter? Now you’ll find other names to improve your search...
